In his letter to the
Kansas School board, Bobby Henderson made some wonderful points about the differences between Intelligent Design, and scientific theory (as he describes his own very thought-involved new religious theory, FSM). I think putting Intelligent Design in schools to disprove, or give an alternative theory as to the way the universe works, will create a backwards, small-minded country in which our children, as compared with children from other countries, will be severely handicapped. It is science and science based theories that have given us so many different discoveries that have made our world what it looks like today. The definition of a
scientific theory is one that can be proven. If you want your child to learn about God and his teachings in school, please send him/her to a Parochial school, or perhaps create a class on comparative religion. There they can learn about your religion of choice, and perhaps other alternative religions, and not cripple the secular educational system. Our country has many many religions that are safe to practice here. By teaching one of them (if you can call Intelligent Design something teachable), you are not only alienating all other religions than Christianity, but questioning science as a whole. if you want to teach opposing viewpoints of a scientific nature, show different, provable scientific theories. Please leave the study of religions in religious classes, or perhaps literature. They don't, in my opinion, belong in a science class.
